Is Trouble Brewing in the Pularemak Arm?

Image
The Pularemak Arm By Mev D’toma – February 2717    Bene Beata enjoyed a brief stint in the headlines late last year, with leading Lendam Kingdom protectionists, the empire’s independence-leaning Leader Ler Sai-an, and Molto Paradise all signaling that a shift to a much tenser period of inter-frontier relations has arrived. Of course, relations between Bene Beata and Molto Paradise began to deteriorate over a year ago, after Ler’s Demonta Progressive Party (DPP) soundly beat the ruling Komina party (KM), Molto Paradise’s preferred interlocutor, in 2716. But things really became heated after the Lendam leader-elect broke with longstanding Lendam Kingdom diplomatic protocol to hold a telecom call with Ler. This prompted fears in Molto Paradise that a pro-independence minded Bene Beata leader had emerged at the same time as a protectionist Lendam Kingdom leader, undermining support in both empires for the “One Molto” policy which Molto Paradise’s ruling Expansionist party ...

Count Weren Topa Luckrat

Image
Taraphine Nobility    Count Weren Topa Luckrat is a hero of the Arachnid Taraphine empire. His fame extends throughout the eastern reaches of the galaxy as a naval officer unrivaled in skill and daring. Born into a powerful noble family, Weren Topa Luckrat was surrounded by luxury from his earliest days. Unlike many of his contemporaries, however, he learned that the leaders of the empire must shoulder the duties of nobility to enjoy its privileges. He attended an elite prep school to gain discipline in mind and body. Excelling at sports that required a high kinesthetic sense like null-G gravball, he gained favor in social circles. Naval Academy    He later enrolled in the Royal Taraphine Naval Academy on cityworld Wiquat-3. His interest females resulted in several incidents that blackened his record at the school. Nonetheless, he graduated near the top of his class and was assigned to the tactical division of a dreadnaught where he distinguished himsel...

Dustov Pirates

Image
Emergency Jump    Dustov Pirates were named after Doctor General Elena Dustov of the hospital ship TSS Fydor Dubinin . The Dubinin was stranded in an uncharted sector of space after the battle-damaged ship made an emergency jump to escape destruction. Captain Dustov     Heavily damaged and unable to make further jumps, the Dubinin became a makeshift sub-light colony ship, making for a barely habitable world in a red giant starsystem some 50 light years distant from its reentry into normal space. With most of the command and engineering officers killed during the battle, Dustov assumed command. An exceptionally able physician and a strong leader, she was more than equal to the task. During her lifetime, she survived mutinies and heart-breaking engineering breakdowns. She was well known for her wry sense of humor and her unconventional approach to problem-solving.   Generation Ship Dubinin    Since the sick bays wer...

An Excerpt From Anderson's History of the Naplian Conflict

Image
Anderson's Weekly Magazine    From 2260 until 3826, Anderson's Monthly Magazine reported the news in digital format and on printed cellufiber sheets. Its writers' stories and its editors' opinion pieces had a profound impact on Terran society and politics. During the war with Naplia, Anderson's Weekly published war-related news and accounts of its participants, just as it had done in previous conflicts. Each decade, relevant articles and accounts were collected into a history of the war by decades. The excerpt below is reprinted from ' Anderson's Naplian War - The Second Decade .' WAR'S ECHOES IN THE ALLIED NORTHERN COLONIAL EMPIRES    SCARCELY had the thunder of the Naplian guns at Baedecker subsided before there was echoed thunder from everyone who opposed Terra spending her energies in the Great Desert Rift, the Union of Planets, and the United Consortia. The loyal opposition demanded that she concentrate all her forces upon the figh...

Alluree Empire

Image
Descendants of Radnia Alluree were humans, most likely descendants of the ancient Radnians that were equivalent to Terran humans in every respect. The empire grew out of the union of several smaller stellar alliances. The first Tagliis ruler of the Alluree took the throne in 2236. Both before and after the ascendance of the Tagliis kings, the Tengii and Chitazian nobles were rivals of the Tagliis. For centuries, the Tagliis held firmly to their authority, but in 2750, the Tengii and Chitazian Joined together to destroy the house of Tagliis. Secret Cybernetics Trade Following the Naplian Invasion of Terra, the Briddarri Kingdom secretly established the Twelfth Legion cybernetic reserve in an attempt to take advantage of the growing interstellar traffic in cybernetics. With rising anti-war sentiment at home and changing military fortunes abroad, the Briddarri secretly legalized the interstellar covert cybernetics trade in 2747. It also contracted with ships of other empire...

Outer Rim Mining

Image
The Biggest Miner    Outer Rim Mining was one of the biggest mining concerns in the galaxy. It was a mining commodity trading and mining company with its headquarters in Bair starsystem in the Outer Rim Territories. The company was created through a merger of Felster Mining with Strata Stellar Mining in 1673. It was the leading member of the Major Trade Houses called the Vastas, meaning “The Six,” which is the third tier in the Trade House hierarchy, the other members being Crecy Faction, Llyr-Y-Ryll, Maga Corporation, Rissid Agricultural Corporation, and Ecossais Company. As the trade house with the largest home' territory in the galaxy, it rivaled the Three Great Trade Houses and was considered to be the unofficial 'Fourth' great trade house. However, its nearly singular focus on mining operations and its supporting industries left it at a less prestigious level in the Trade House strata. It was the largest company in the Eastern Rim and the galaxy's largest mi...

AGE OF THE SERJAUM MINING ROBBER BARONS

Image
AGE OF THE SERJAUM MINING ROBBER BARONS    I hope that you will indulge me. I decided to take a side-trip to talk about the robber barons before delving into Outer Rim Mining. In 2480, Terella Mining Consortium discovered serjaum at the location of a salt mine it was building for Jovis Derena Temjin at the Gemetta starcluster, in what was then Rutak territory. Temjin was a Ffawe Naplian emigrant who had settled in Rutak Gemetta in 2339 and taken Ruttak citizenship to create a vast agricultural estate throughout what later became the Fal-Gemetta province. He had received a land grant of 47,827 planets in 2341 to found New Helven starcluster and another one of 96,800 worlds (the Fintana grant) in 2344, for military services rendered. Jovis Derena Temjin supported Rutak Gemetta's struggle for independence but not necessarily its' joining the Naplian Ffawe Kingdom. On the agricultural planets of Rutak Gemetta before the serjaum rush, Temjin was counted among the most wealth...
