Count Weren Topa Luckrat

Taraphine Nobility

   Count Weren Topa Luckrat is a hero of the Arachnid Taraphine empire. His fame extends throughout the eastern reaches of the galaxy as a naval officer unrivaled in skill and daring. Born into a powerful noble family, Weren Topa Luckrat was surrounded by luxury from his earliest days. Unlike many of his contemporaries, however, he learned that the leaders of the empire must shoulder the duties of nobility to enjoy its privileges. He attended an elite prep school to gain discipline in mind and body. Excelling at sports that required a high kinesthetic sense like null-G gravball, he gained favor in social circles.

Naval Academy

   He later enrolled in the Royal Taraphine Naval Academy on cityworld Wiquat-3. His interest females resulted in several incidents that blackened his record at the school. Nonetheless, he graduated near the top of his class and was assigned to the tactical division of a dreadnaught where he distinguished himself. Often selected to lead away missions, he gained a reputation for successful operations under challenging circumstances.

Active Duty

   In 2844 Luckrat was assigned as the weapons officer aboard the destroyer TIS Sorger, where he was mentioned in dispatches for the rescue of several crewmembers when a missile malfunction filled a control room with toxic fumes.

   Promoted to lieutenant in 2846, Count Luckrat was assigned to command a picket vessel the TIS Gimbet, in the remote starsystems in the Carania Canyon of the Dreeda Nebula where he managed to capture two pirate ships in a running gunfight through the asteroid fields of Bedalava-4 in 2847.

Cleemik's Draw

   The incident for which Count Weren Topa Luckrat was remembered was the battle of Cleemik's Draw. Commanding an escort squadron, Count Luckrat saved a convoy of transports loaded with refugees. Against overwhelming odds, Luckrat led his squadron against C'tous Tribal Sict pirates to give the unarmed transports time to escape.

   His flagship, the cruiser TIS Mogherin, a standard cruiser, engaged a C'tous heavy cruiser, and three light cruisers while the remaining vessels of the Taraphine squadron intercepted the outlying enemy vessels. In a close range gunfight, the Mogherin drove off the light cruisers and damaged the jump drive of the heavier C'tous cruiser, CTS Navanin, leaving her listing in space but still fighting. Helm control aboard Luckrat's ship had been compromised, but it was still under power. The Mogherin managed to come about and ram the alien cruiser, destroying both ships. 

Roll of Honor

   Count Weren Topa Luckrat and his crew were honored by the Taraphine with three battle citations, and the name of the TIS Mogherin was placed on the Taraphine Navy roll of honor.  In 2900 a super dreadnaught was christened the TIS Mogherin and a new military academy the Luckrat Stellar Command Academy was built for the development of officers for the fleet. Every class at the academy learned that the devotion to duty and bravery Count Luckrat displayed during his career were the characteristics of the ideal Taraphine naval officer.
