Unable to fight Genau at Grezzi, Ubomo decided to draw back into the Hushan starfields, to rendezvous with Admiral Palan, who commanded over 20,000 Union of Planets warships and then move against the Naplians at the southern edge of Donvau Canyon. The obvious problem with this plan was that Ubomo had first to defeat Genau’s numerically and now qualitatively superior force. In July of 2696, before the Terrans could move, Genau appeared, and Ubomo was forced to take a defensive position outside the Bara starcluster. The fleets faced off against each other in an east-west direction. The main force of the Terrans was centered at the Danska starsystem. Terran general dispositions were anchored on the right at the Bara Nebula, in the center at Danska starsystem, and on the left at the Kimeger starsystem. The volatile stellar clouds beyond Kimeger made it impossible for the Naplians and their allies to pass around the flanks of the Terran line. Ubomo planned to stand and repulse the Naplian onslaught. She interspersed her best squadrons between the colonial units and scratch battle groups that comprised a large part of her remaining force. Admiral Russel Fremont’s task force of 7,000 warships was placed in reserve at Bathes Star.

Even with his advantage in numbers and quality of ships the Terran position posed a severe obstacle to Genau. At the end of 2697, Genau’s vanguard squadrons left for Kimeger to turn the Terran left flank while he planned to attack the Terran center with his main force. In early 2698 the leading elements of Genau’s force met the Terran center at Springman’s Well starsystem. Naplian admiral Dienter’s task force engaged the Terran screen in a savage battle around Springman’s Well. The starsystem exchanged hands five times until Terran vice admiral Kleemeyer’s division was committed, driving off the remnants of Dienter’s battered task force. In the south Troshi’s vanguard squadrons were forced back after initially penetrating into Kimeger starsystem. The defeat of both attacks resulted in a hasty retreat westward through Genau’s reserves.

This year has been a busy one for the publishing arm of Takamo Universe. I'm happy to tell you that we have a boatload of novels, novellas and anthologies published and even more in production. A taste of the new Takamo Universe Starship Showroom. The is a Stelltron Commercial Scout We Are Back! I know, I know. I said we would change the format and publish weekly, and here it is, MONTHS later and you are just reading the next installment. Unhappily, In February and March, our family suffered a couple of setbacks, a broken leg, ankle, actually - mine - and in March we all came down with a whopper of a cold that progressed to walking pneumonia and to top it off, we all ended up in the ER at 3 in the morning with a family member who had suffered a traumatic brain injury. So, I've been a bit distracted. But now, the sickness is gone, my leg is healing nicely, and our prayers were answered when the family member came out of his come after neurosurgery and has made a miraculous recovery.
