Ubomo

As the invasion of northern Terra began, the Attel Prince Genau’s fleet rapidly advanced into the northwestern frontier of the Terran Republic. Terran forces under fleet admiral Joanne Ubomo were widely dispersed along the border with the Great Desert Rift. The rapid Naplian advance caught and defeated the Terran forward elements near the Livina Nebula in the Podensa starcluster in 2688. A year later, Admiral Ubomo advanced against the Naplians, and Prince Genau foolishly made a stand at Casle Drift, where he was outnumbered by at least twenty-five percent. Genau was soundly thrashed, losing a fifth of his force. The Naplians withdrew to Venna’s Crossing. While Genau fell back, Naplian Admiral Montac was driven back to the Kerrin Basin by the Reittians under Admiral Stolayevich. The lines at Kerrin remained stationary for the remainder of 2689 as the Reittians could not force Mantoc’s line, which was reinforced by Denic reserves, and Rutak mercenaries.

Stalemate

Meanwhile, Admiral Ubomo gained the Diaga Ridge of the Lavina Nebula, where Genau’s Attel and Naplian starships attacked, but were repulsed at the Vasoe Ring in 2690 and again in 2691, at the Cerino Cluster. After these two battles, the opposing forces along northwest frontier stalemated, and as the Boe historian Persa noted…”a situation like this required a Bonate, not a Genau.”

Retreat

Relief for Genau’s thus far embarrassed task force came with the news of the defeat of Audrian reinforcement columns at Ackmara, and Shulla, on the western border of the Great Desert Rift. The Audrians who were to reinforce Ubomo’s Terran squadrons, would not be coming. Grand Alliance Command ordered Ubomo to retire from her strong position in the shoulder of the Diaga to cover the flank of the Terran withdrawal from the Great Desert Rift that began in 2693. While retreating to the Livina Nebula, Ubomo’s rearguard failed to slow Genau’s pursuit at Pilava starsystem in May of 2693, and by the end of the year, Ubomo’s defensive line ran from the Lavonoe starsystem to the Livorno Drift.

Slaughter

Word of Ubomo’s retreat reached Mantoc in 2693, and he decided to resume the offensive. Debouching from his positions around the Kerrin in June of 2694. Mantoc caught his retreating enemy, Stolayevich, at Budalo starsystem in September 2694. The ensuing battle was a gross mismatch as Mantoc’s forces had to do little but pass through the meager 8,000 starships of Stolayavech’s fleet as they were run down by Mantoc’s massive force. Most of the Reittian survivors were captured by Mantoc’s vigorous pursuit to Lavanoe, which they reached in 2695.
