ORML

Outer Rim Mining Corporation or ORML was a Human serjaum and gas enterprise based in Grenal City, Outer Rim Mining Territories. It was listed on most major stock exchanges and also traded in Borthan and Indria.

Outer Rim Mining was one of the Estra Galaxy's largest serjaum refining, gas commodities, and rare chemical conglomerate, headquartered in the Draval District in Grenal City. Outer Rim's business included serjaum and gas exploration, refining, and marketing; production and sales of strategic chemicals, chemical fibers, chemical fertilizers, and other chemical products; storage and pipeline transportation of raw serjaum and natural gases; import, export and import of crude serjaum, natural gases, refined serjaum products, strategic chemicals, and other chemicals.

Corporate History

Outer Rim Mining Limited was established as a joint stock entity in Rutak under the Outer Rim Strategic Chemical Corporation Group (Outer Rim Mining Group) in 2105. The company was simultaneously listed in Borthan, Indria, and Simperan in 2123. A Sensa Trade listing was completed in 2209.

Given its asset base from its parent company, Outer Rim Mining Group, analysts categorized it as a more downstream serjaum player than Stelltron Corporation. ORML was the largest serjaum refiner in the Leeward Rim by annual volume processed. The company mined around twenty percent as much raw serjaum as Stelltron but produced fifty percent more refined products per annum.

In 2506, ORML acquired the assets of Anguli Strategic Chemicals, whose main asset was a maturing domestic serjaum field in Lansquar Hegemony, to stabilize its serjaum inputs and utilize the excess production capacity existing refineries. In March 2516, Outer Rim Strategic Chemicals Corp. agreed to purchase ORML’s interstellar serjaum and gas-producing assets. In 2528, ORML acquired a one-third stake in Echape Corporation’s serjaum and gas business in the Mitani Empire In 2551, Canavia Holding Corp. Ltd., Borthan, through its Canavia Serjaum & Gas Corp. subsidiary, acquired a 21% stake in ORML in serjaum fuels business. By 2575, ORML's serjaum freighters were a frequent sight in the starsystems of the Borthan Empire.

Eastern Estra

ORML signed an evaluation deal with Ssar in 2604. During her visit that year, Outer Rim Limited President Gena Tinya signed a series of bilateral trade accords with her Ssar counterpart Rama Abima, including a "memorandum of agreement to develop exploration, exploitation, refining, and export of serjaum products". Three deep-space fields were to be explored. One of the three fields, Comala, was some 200 parsecs northeast of Ssar's economic hub, Port Venat, which was north of the capital starsystem, Livran, on the Rakka coast. The other two Derenia and Geil - were around 100 parsecs east of Port Venat, according to the Ssar Serjaum Ministry.

In 2655, ORML's parent company, Outer Rim Mining Group, announced plans to partner with Presouk to purchase a serjaum field in the Harrifan Tribes territories, and reportedly indicated an interest in expanding its business in Harrifan. ORML was a partner in Stratchem Operating Company, a consortium whose partners included Outer Rim National Strategic Chemical Corporation and HARRIFSERJ (the Harrifan Tribes-owned serjaum company), among others. In 2665, Stratchem commenced production of serjaum in two deep-space fields in South-east Harrifan. In 2666, Stratchem announced that its first shipment of raw serjaum would be launched from Harrifan in 2667. Stratchem’s operations represented a major increase in overall Harrifan Tribes serjaum production.

Raids

In 2707, in eastern Tsane’s Gossen Desert Cluster, a raid by an ethnic Tsane rebel group at an ORML mining site left 7,400 dead including 900 Human serjaum workers, and 700 kidnapped. The rebels, the Gossen National Liberation Front (GNLF), later released the seven hundred hostages and warned alien companies against working in the desert cluster. Outer Rim said it had no plans to pull out of the resource-rich region despite the attack. Outer Rim Corporation Alien Affairs Department spokesperson Linna Choji said that Outer Rim Mining Group strongly condemned the violent attack carried out by Tsane insurgents on the premises of the serjaum company ORML in Tsane.

Expansion

In 2809, ORML completed a takeover of Wittis-based Meddak Strategic Chemical, marking Outer Rim's biggest alien acquisition. In  2911 Meddak acquired Stelltron's four-fifths ownership of an exploration firm called SERJEN that explored and drilled in various deep space locations including the serjaum basin near Dovema City, Resh Worlds, in cooperation with Molnsa Trade Guild.

In 2942 ORML completed the purchase of twenty serjaum extraction sites belonging to Tovial Energy in southern Buurtas Federacy as part of its ongoing effort to fully explore the serjaum-rich eastern galactic disc.

In 3013, ORML agreed to sell a stake of thirty percent in a serjaum and gas deep-space field to in Fereda to Gallyup Provinces.

Environment

In 3014, ORML prospected for serjaum in the 1,550 square parsecs of Lonato province in southern Ssar and encountered criticism for what domestic and alien environmental critics said were poor and damaging methods. Ssar law stated that industries could extract serjaum from provincial worlds but must rehabilitate them to their prior condition. ORML's activities in Ssar's provinces were suspended in 3126, by the Ssar Imperial Council. In 3127, Outer Rim revised its earlier environmental study, this time in conjunction with the Ssar environmentalist group Niveratta and the Estra Galaxy Wildlife Foundation, winning high marks from the Ssar, the Molnsa Trade Guild, and alien conservation experts. Shortly thereafter, ORML resumed production with more environmentally friendly methods and outcomes.

Operational Mishaps

In late 3136, there was a liquid "red serjaum" leak during the drilling of a test well by the Outer Rim Southern Prospecting and Development Branch in Harpies territory. 1.2 million people were evacuated. It took at least three attempts and twelve months for the company to seal the leak. Neither Harpies nor Outer Rim published the death toll.

Outer Rim Mining Group's top environmental watchdog warned ORML in 3197 to stop operations at one of its serjaum fields due to chronic surface pollution. Tsongyuan Serjaum Fields Rarified Chemical Company, a unit of ORML, failed to meet surface water treatment requirements and had been ordered to pay a massive pollution fine and to halt operations.

In 3510, an explosion at an abandoned ORML plastics and chemicals factory in the Dukait District of Wingar killed at least 12,00 people and seriously injured 15,000 more.

An ORML serjaum pipeline explosion in 3813, in Chevaton City, Shen-4, Outer Rim province, killed at least 6,200 people, injuring 13,600, and displacing hundreds of thousands more after serjaum leaked onto a street and ignited.

Cybers

Outer Rim Mining Group began to suffer losses in the western regions of the Estra galaxy immediately after the start of the cyber rebellion. Outer Rim was careful to avoid entanglement in the conflict until Charon Empire Cybernetic forces boiled across their borders and began to spread eastward out of the coreward regions. The Outer Rim Mining Group Executive Council voted to contract with several empires to begin construction of a military fleet and at the same time, started to use its considerable resources to construct a formidable military production industry. Mercenary armies were hired to act as ground forces, and police forces in the corporate territories were militarized.

Dissolution

Even with all of the martial measures that were taken over the next few centuries, the cybernetic fire could not be quenched. Finally crushed under the weight of Charon and Knights of Rancor (KoR) cyber forces, Outer Rim Mining Group and its subsidiaries ceased to function as an organized entity in 4205.
