The Galactic Core, Part 2
The Eastern Core
Except for the Loess Worlds, the states in the eastern side of the core were cut from darker cloth. Religious zealots, aggressive expansionists, political opportunists and murderous machines made up the list of major empires here.
K'areean Emperium
An alien race of salamander-like creatures called the Mweru. It was an empire of hundreds of millions of starsystems in the heart of the galactic core. The chief religious teaching of the Mweru was the 'Word of the Way' as promulgated by the prophet Tag Orr sometime before 1000 TSD. Mweru faith influenced every part of K'areean society, including the government. Each embassy had a temple dedicated to Tag Orr and his teachings.
Loess Worlds
A pragmatic humanoid Alien race with an affinity for genetic manipulation which they used to improve and modify crops to feed their worlds. Agriculture was the state industry, and the government operated as an interstellar agricultural corporation.
The Loess Worlds were part of the Ischalli alliance that formed before the Cyber Wars. They were members with K’areean Emperium, Quirthan Empire, and the Poeschl Kingdom. Although the Quirthan Empire had xenophobic tendencies, Loess Worlds still managed to get them to join the other empires for mutual defense.
Quirthian Empire
The Quirthanii People were a humanoid alien civilization that had spent millennia expanding under the guidance of the Doge, who holds god-like power over the society. Moderate xenophobia in the halls of the Quirthan Empire government negatively affected their relations with alien kingdoms.
Quirthian Empire was a member of the Ischalii Alliance with Loess World, Poeschel Kingdom, and K’areean Emperium.
Ronnel Empire
The Ronnel Empire was ruled mainly from “Central,” a nexus of over fifty million starsystems. The “Provinces” (Rupur in the south, Auschlet in the north, Couric in the east, and Mupan in the west) were much more populous, dwarfing Central, but holding little influence beyond some representation in the Assembly.
There were two organizations to the south of the Ronnel Empire that weighed heavily on the Empire's tragic history. Maga Corporation (a minion one of the great trade houses, comprising a mix of humanoid alien races) specialized in cloning and mind-implant technologies. Their vast fortune was built from agreements and partnerships with the Ronnel Empire. The headquarters for Repur Cybernetics was located within the Maga Corporation systems, and they used significant political pressure to influence Ronnel in the creation of cyber-friendly policies, culminating in the Maga-Ronnel Reserve Agreement of 2909.
Barbuto Federation
A reptile humanoid alien race that created a cyborg region during the Naplian war and then joined the cyber rebellion. It had been a staunch ally of Indria, but during the 29th century, the government came under the influence of the Briddarri, mainly due to the efforts of Briddarri diplomat Duvret Rista, who was a supporter of Briddarri efforts to reverse engineer Truppen technologies for military purposes.
Hiero Takatu
A human rogue empire said to have harbored Truppen deserters. Some refugee groups and delegations seeking asylum for Terrans of the defeated Northern Alliance were allowed to settle in Hiero Takatu regions. A Truppen bodyguard was briefly employed at the palace in the late 27th century. Ghetto districts of Northern Alliance ex-patriots were present on several worlds.
Mir Empire and the Charon
The Mir was one of the human civilizations directly descended from the ancient Radnians. They were a technologically advanced culture that created a caste of autonomous AI drones who acted as the Mir workforce. In the early 33rd century, one of these autonomous drones became self-aware, creating for the first time in known history an entirely mechanical conscious being that did not evolve from a biological host. It was the first purely cybernetic being. It took the name, Charon. The sentient drone began to replicate itself, secretly replacing autonomous drones with conscious models until a significant proportion of the drone population was under its influence. Then it acted. In 3301, the Charon cybers went to war against the Mir. By 3422, the Mir had been annihilated, and the Charon Empire replaced them.
The Charon viewed every biological, including cyborgs, as an existential threat. The Charon cybers kept to their own territories until the mid 38th century, when, after some clashes with biologicals along the frontier, the Charon determined to eliminate the biological threat.
