The First Audrian War - The First Century

   Other than the Svenisch spec-ops raids across the Proq frontier and the Naplian incursion into Dresch space, most of the action in the first five years of the war was political. A flurry of individual war declarations and pleas for support between empires created a defacto war between the two alliances. It was made official in 2675 when Grand Alliance diplomats convened and issued a formal declaration of grievances and declared a general state of war against the Naplian Imperial Alliance and its member empires and kingdoms. 


First Blood
2379-2381



   Late in 2375, the 64th Svenisch fleet under Admiral Goolisan Frit passed through Naplian Territory. They rendezvous in 2379 with the 2nd Naplian Naval Corps under Admiral Ams Weterahht and crossed the Proq Frontier.

   In early 2379 the Naplians attacked the Dresch Eglien cluster and crossed the Audrian frontier. Admiral Fierstak Hsapur was in overall command of the Naplian invasion of the Dresch Frontier. Hsapur's column was opposed by the Dresch Admiral Dessai Dejoi with the Dresch 36th Fleet Contingent. Admiral Tupain Demarsay was in command of the 460th Fleet Group tasked with crossing into Audrian Space. The Audrian 86th and 119th Frontier Fleets opposed the initial Naplian sorties into Audrian space.

   In May of 2380, the Svenisch 54th Fleet, operating in Pressak, detaches a battlegroup under Admiral Greeta Uminatt to invade Qomiti territory. They skirt the Kissla Nebula and strike the provincial capital at Namingriff. The Qomiti 782nd Home Guard Fleet under the overall command of General Paslok Derig, a ground forces commander, defends the Kissla Nebula but Derig is not an experienced starship commander; it is a scattered and disorganized defense. The Qomiti withdraw after three months of fighting, leaving Namingriff starsystem undefended.

   The diplomatic wrangling continued, including an abortive attempt to begin peace negotiations. A Dulte diplomatic squadron en route to the Svenicsh capital starsystem was intercepted and destroyed in the Svenisch Forimala starsystem by pirate vessels of the Black Flag Syndicate. Briddarri intelligence suggested Naplian involvement in the attack.  


   By early 2381, the Audrian 47th and 44th Territorial Fleets had moved into position to counterattack the Naplian 460th Fleet Group, which had penetrated to the Mettiak star cluster. It was suddenly ordered to abandon the counter-attack and to disperse to defend the main starsystems within the Mettiak star cluster. This allowed the Naplians to attack each battlegroup one by one. The Audrians were defeated in detail by the methodical Naplian attacks. Terrellian Gwdask, the Audrian Admiral in charge of the 44th Territorial Fleet, was killed at the battle of Demilon Starsystem when his battlecruiser the Fetollac Demar was Torpedoed by the Naplian stealth ship Grissa under the command of Commodore Etti Requn.

Dresch Defeat
2382-2464 



   The following 82 years saw a failed Audrian incursion into Naplia, a minor offensive by the Rutak in southern Ffawe T Naplia, heavy fighting in Proq and Qomiti and further Naplian gains in Audria. Most of the campaigns were characterized by bloody back and forth fighting, except the Naplian offensive in the Dresch Kingdom. Although opposed by fleets of several Gran Alliance empires, including the Briddarri, the Naplian juggernaut was irresistible, and in 2464, the Dresch homeworld surrendered.

   The loss of the Dresch capitol was a political disaster for the Grand Alliance and nearly resulted in the capitulation of the Dresch government. The Grand Alliance council seriously considered suing for peace but in the end, the optimists won the day and the alliance, even the Dresch elected to continue the war.

I said we would change the format and publish weekly, and here it is, MONTHS later and you are just reading the next installment. Unhappily, In February and March, our family suffered a couple of setbacks, a broken leg, ankle, actually - mine - and in March we all came down with a whopper of a cold that progressed to walking pneumonia and to top it off, we all ended up in the ER at 3 in the morning with a family member who had suffered a traumatic brain injury. So, I've been a bit distracted.
