Starstream Age and the Foldgate Paths Part 3
A significant breakthrough in shipping lane expansion came in the 1760's, as civil war raged in Borthan space. The conquest of the regions northwest of Briddarria and the growing influence of Sensa Trade Corporation in Briddarri commerce had increased the need for a stronger shipping infrastructure. Now, sixty years after Avan Edday's first proposal, the Briddarri Parliament approved a Transgalactic foldgate path and chartered two companies to build it. The Kingdom Outer Rim Company pioneered northwestwards from Lesinum Starsystem. The Core Eastern Shore LTD., which started at the easternmost point of the Languan Passage and built eastwards toward the galactic core. Heavily funded by government credit and starsystem colony grants acquired from the empires that would be crossed, these private enterprises created vast fortunes and even greater scandal which ended in the panic of 1973.
In a less publicized move, shipping magnate Kovalis Sandrisett bought control of the Briddarri Lesinum Central Foldgate path and extended it through to The Klevassan Chissao starsystem. Sandrisett's foldgate path ventures were so successful, they made him the wealthiest man in the Rimward Reaches by the time he died in 1977. In the same years, Treway Faroul and Kist Finn manipulated serjaum supplies and Dulte Oder Trade Center foldgate path stocks and built themselves large fortunes, which was nothing but theft in the eyes of their competitors.
The Starstream Age rolled on, and foldgate path construction, finance, operation, and consolidation created billionaire estates on a scale never seen before. Among the great foldgate path tycoons, certain are remembered for the great systems they built; Semprias R. Jumonay for his Hosan - Pizcvour Lines, Tuzon Nerva Obreff for the Toninda Route. Others became famous for the wealth they accumulated: the Sandrisetts, Serrel Gausze, and Wessmer Leya Roina. There were those enriched by alleged poaching of government funds; the Pressattan Quartett and the Credit Dreschier ring, and some idealistic souls like Karlatt Gefrain Bramass, who seemed lost among the sharks. Some built profitable local starstreams into large regional systems without government support: Crecy brothers in the Northwest, Planza and Vasser in the South East. Others piled up massive debts in schemes that ended in bankruptcy such as Koote, and later Qillar, both with the Borthan Coast Line. Then there were those who managed to breathe life into dying foldgate paths, like Arman Unro Birrean and his turnaround of the Kingdom Outer Rim. All these men had in common an outstanding sense for business and transportation; all left lasting marks on the empires in which they acted, and most of these men died very rich and left vast fortunes to their descendants.

The saga of the Rimward Reaches foldgate path barons ended with the Starstream Age and the ascendance of the Great Trade Houses. The vast estates of the dynasties built on foldgate paths, the Sandrisetts, Farouls, Hoovans, and other Colters and Crecy's, melted away, dissipated by the spending of the heirs and reduced profitability. New financiers tried great foldgate path consolidation schemes but eventually failed, like the Vansweders of Audria, who failed with their 28,000 sector-wide foldgate path system during the First Audrian War, and Rodinne Ounga, who wrested control of the Briddarri Lesinum Central from the Sandrisetts in 2244. In 2398, after more than a century of stiff competition, the two largest foldgate path systems in the North East, the Briddarri Lesinum Central and the Napliannia merged to form the Briddarri Central, only to go bankrupt two hundred years later and be reorganized by Western Rim Trade.
