Retreat From the Center

Image
Retreat     T he retreat from the central sectors had become a strategic rout. At least seventy-five percent of 464th Infantry Command’s combat strength, including the 23rd Infantry Army Group, as well as orbital jump, armor, artillery, engineer, and signal units had been expended. The planned attack to retake Maun Thok never materialized because 464th Infantry Command no longer possessed the means to attempt it. The Kopitak 510th, 337th, and 34th Fleets began to move toward the Qusec core. The only force facing them was the 122nd Qusec Naval Command, which was tasked with defending the stellar trade lanes in the heart of the empire. However, by late April, 3417, the three Kopitak fleets would make it into the Aya and Breeshong starsystems.    In March, 3416 the 464th Infantry Command was ordered to proceed to Rao Pyet starsystem for rest and refit. Kopitak forces made a surprise landing there, and two of the command's army groups had to fight their way t...

East Wind

Qusec Endivas Class Destroyer East Wind      C lan Admiral Tuggla had already worked out a plan for taking Maun Thok. Called the "Billowing Cloud," the objective was to avoid outlying Qusec positions and strike at the primary target first, like a "cloud slowly spreading outward." The plan for the 1,750 Kopitak warships and 80 million troops participating in the campaign was first to isolate Maun Thok starsystem by striking Maun Thok-2, 4, and 9, simultaneously, precluding any Qusec units from supporting each other within the starsystem. The 320th Army Group was then to neutralize deep space outposts in the ort cloud and seize the Phun Chal deep space naval shipyard in orbit around the 7th moon of Maun Thock-11. The Mission of the Efften Orbital Jump Division was to then conduct the main attack from high orbit on the provincial capital city Detu Huc on Maun Thok-4.    Commanding his forces from Sleikan Starsystem, General Mahv Phet, the Provisio...

The Killing Fields of the Kopitak

Image
The East and West     The Kopitak were humans. Their planet of origin was Kop (Kop-3) a desert world of sand and rocky mountain ranges. They were a civilization of martial clans that had expanded outward as the Radnian empire descended into chaos. Kopitak space was considered a wild an dangerous patch of stars and nebulas that was best crossed quickly. The realms surrounding the region banded together in two alliances meant to keep the Kopitak penned in. One in the west and one in the east, each made of four empires. In the west, Qusec, the H'fatta Tribes, the Samites, and the Messatik empires joined against the Kopitak in the Davra Alliance. In the east, the Esari Tribes, the Valyik, the Weatani, and the Sanji held sway as the Frontier Treaty Union. These two coalitions kept the Kopitak from spilling over their borders for two thousand years. But the might of all of these empires was not enough to contain Tupara Chass, the greatest of the Kopitak warriors. ...

Western Rim Trade

Image
Western Rim Corvette Class Warship     B y the beginning of the 28th century, ownership of Western Rim Trade had devolved to two families distantly related to the original Kallibur clan. The Babak family was ruthless and grasping while the Jabari's were generally honest and forthright. The Babak's owned 43% of Western Rim shares while the Jabari held 47%. the remaining shares were held by executive board members and various corporations. In most instances, the minority shareholders tended to follow the Jabari in matters affecting the company.    During the early 2700's, the Babaks managed to convince the minority shareholders of the importance of controlling all trade in the northern regions of the galaxy. This propelled the firm into direct conflict with the Molnsa Guild and it's associated lesser trade houses. The Jabari family managed to keep it from erupting into open warfare between the two great trade houses but just barely. The J...

The Third Great Tradehouse

Image
Hermes Class Armed Trade Cruiser Western Rim Trade     W estern Rim Trade Corporation was founded in 2605 by Alexana and Duron Kallibur. Disaffected private contractors who ran afoul of Stelltron’s stranglehold on interstellar trade, the Kalliburs wanted a way to force a new set of routes bypassing Stelltron’s. They approached the Borthan government, being loyal members of the upper merchant class, for assistance in setting up this rival endeavor. Whatever the Borthan officials agreed to in this first meeting is unknown, but the Kalliburrs’ personal journals from this period have been recovered, and they specifically asked for operatives from the Intervention Directorate (ID) —the Borthans’ black ops intelligence squads.    Over the next century, Western Rim purchased many starships from various manufacturers, often using the assumed names of shell companies to hide their actual numbers from competitors. At the same time, the ID operatives infiltra...

Molnsa Trade Guild vs Stelltron

Image
Interlopers     T he guild didn’t think much of humankind, the descendants of the ancient Radnians. Not until a fledgling company called Stelltron started offering shipping services that undercut Molnsa’s exorbitant prices. Stelltron gained a foothold in the surrounding systems of their territory, meaning the humans had carved out an independent trade route system. This did not sit well with the reigning kings of commerce.    Molnsa agents tried infiltrating Stelltron, in order to disrupt the company’s technological development and security networks, but the very human-centric business was far too vigilant—and not a little xenophobic. Any alien found guilty of industrial espionage or sabotage was immediately incarcerated on penal asteroids in the most remote, least developed frontier colonies of the corporation. Stelltron made it abundantly clear it was as unwilling to accept this kind of interference as Molnsa was to accept new competition. ...

Molnsa Trade Guild

Image
The Seven Star Kings    The Molnsa Trade Guild was the oldest of the great houses, preceding the others by a more than a thousand years. While mankind was clawing its way through the muck of feudalism, seven so-called Star Kings signed the first Guild Treaty at the Conclave of Suftas on Berasha 5 in the Molnsa Constellation. These seven  Suftas were “T'eng Fan, a wealthy Borthan trade merchant, Chutteari Grequat, the Partak merchant lord, Toos Fa Indarei, the Biha Serjaum trader of the Northern Core, Amafir Kish, the Hagadorn Arms trader of the Inner Reaches, Pasasha Numa, the Kratek Slaver,  Booker Raman, the Smuggler Chief, and Tsthechan the Q'kwagat Raider Lord.”    These Suftas employed a wide variety of tactics to bring new systems and routes under their sway. Toos Fa Indarei searched out worlds deficient in sources of Serjaum, making them virtually dependent on the suftas for this vital fuel. Tsthechan traded at cutthroat ...
