It was founded by a Terran human named  Antwon Merchetti, who turned of age in 2289 and volunteered for the Distan Colonies Galactic Expansion Corps. His colonial assignment was procurement and supply. The journey to his new station in the Rissid Agricultural regions took over three years, most of which was spent in a hyperbaric stasis chamber. After setting up the necessary trade domiciles, his procurement and supply section went into action but found that the tariff system imposed by the Rissid prevented any meaningful trade. Antwon was an aggressive and creative entrepreneur, and in 2291, he convinced his team captain to let him scout for better trade opportunities. THE RIFT    The Great Desert Rift is a vast region in the galactic disk on the northeastern frontier of the Terran Empire. Its central position in the Rimward Reaches made it the crossroads of empires. Countless battle sites on planets and in space are woven into the fabric of the wilderness where the dead outnumber the living. WILDERNESS    It is bordered on the south by the Rutak Empire, on the west by Audria and the Kitanai realms, on the north by the United Consortium and by the Union of Planets to the east. Kopitak Admiral Ven's Flagship, Heavy Cruiser KSS Brem Ta  Plea For Help Qusec Capital, Gassong City at Nichyun-6    Even after the loss of Breeshong, Qusec's Davra Allies (H'fatta Tribes, the Samites, and the Messatik empires) continued to believe that the Gassong regime was not failing. The Qusec representative for the Davra alliance went to Davra to request a supplemental military aid package for Qusec plus economic and refugee aid. The allies were not impressed. There would be no more funds in 3418 for Gassong. The Defense    The Qusec 45th Fleet Group commander, Admiral Toan, had organized centers of resistance for the defense of the starsystem. These fronts were so connected as to form an arc enveloping the entire system. Battle of ZaenMa Starsystem     With the fall of Breeshong, the Kopitak leadership prepared for the initiation of its final offensive. Clan Admiral Tuggla was ordered to crush the Qusec "puppet" regime. The only obstacle to that goal was moving his forces 360 parsecs (the fleet reserve divisions in Kopitak would have to move 1,000 parsecs) west to participate in the attack on the capital Gassong. In one of the most complex logistical feats of the war, he did just that.    In Early 3418 Admiral Tuggla arrived at Clan Admiral Mivas Ven 's headquarters in the ort cloud of Mu Poj starsystem to oversee the final battles. Ven and his staff had mainly adapted Admiral Tuggla's original plan and prepared a three-pronged attack that would be led by the 4th Fleet Corps, which would seize the vital  ZaenMa starsystem, the capital of Mong Lyan Province and "the gateway to Gassong." Retreat     T he retreat from the central sectors had become a strategic rout. At least seventy-five percent of 464th Infantry Command’s combat strength, including the 23rd Infantry Army Group, as well as orbital jump, armor, artillery, engineer, and signal units had been expended. The planned attack to retake Maun Thok never materialized because 464th Infantry Command no longer possessed the means to attempt it. The Kopitak 510th, 337th, and 34th Fleets began to move toward the Qusec core. The only force facing them was the 122nd Qusec Naval Command, which was tasked with defending the stellar trade lanes in the heart of the empire. Qusec Endivas Class Destroyer East Wind      C lan Admiral Tuggla had already worked out a plan for taking Maun Thok. Called the "Billowing Cloud," the objective was to avoid outlying Qusec positions and strike at the primary target first, like a "cloud slowly spreading outward." The plan for the 1,750 Kopitak warships and 80 million troops participating in the campaign was first to isolate Maun Thok starsystem by striking Maun Thok-2, 4, and 9, simultaneously, precluding any Qusec units from supporting each other within the starsystem. The East and West     The Kopitak were humans. Their planet of origin was Kop (Kop-3) a desert world of sand and rocky mountain ranges. They were a civilization of martial clans that had expanded outward as the Radnian empire descended into chaos. Kopitak space was considered a wild an dangerous patch of stars and nebulas that was best crossed quickly. The realms surrounding the region banded together in two alliances meant to keep the Kopitak penned in. One in the west and one in the east, each made of four empires. In the west, Qusec, the H'fatta Tribes, the Samites, and the Messatik empires joined against the Kopitak in the Davra Alliance. In the east, the Esari Tribes, the Valyik, the Weatani, and the Sanji held sway as the Frontier Treaty Union. These two coalitions kept the Kopitak from spilling over their borders for two thousand years.
